The new “Misconfigured” column appears in the Metrc Items grid after the Category column and surfaces whether an item is missing data that is currently required for its assigned Item Category.
Metrc definition of a misconfigured item: An item missing one or more data fields that are required by its Item Category at the time you are viewing it.
Why this matters operationally: Item setup is upstream of many actions (for example, package creation and test submissions). When item fields are incomplete, you can encounter preventable delays, corrections, or blocked workflows later.
How the Items grid displays misconfiguration status
The “Misconfigured” column shows one of two states for each item.
• A red “# Issues” badge (for example, “1 Issue” or “3 Issues”) when configuration issues exist
• “No” when the item has no configuration issues
Sorting and filtering: You can sort and filter using the Misconfigured column to quickly isolate items with issues instead of manually scanning the full grid.
Visual indicators: item-level and field-level signals
Metrc uses two related indicators so you can see both that a problem exists and exactly where it is.
Indicator at the item level: The red “# Issues” badge shows the total number of fields on that item that are currently missing required data.
Indicator at the field level: The specific cells that are missing required values display a “Missing Data” label so staff can correct the exact fields that are incomplete.
How counts update: After you correct a missing field, the “Missing Data” label and the badge issue count update to reflect the item’s current configuration status.
History tracking: audit trail for item corrections
Metrc records misconfigured fields and subsequent corrections in the item’s History tab within the Items grid.
Chronological visibility: History entries are displayed in chronological order to provide an audit trail of configuration-related changes, supporting internal QA and compliance documentation.
Updating misconfigured items in New Jersey (CRC workflows)
New Jersey operators should handle updates differently depending on whether the item requires state pre-approval.
Items pre-approved by the state (CRC)
Action required: Contact the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) to request the misconfigured item(s) be reset.
What happens after reset: The item status becomes “RequiresUpdate,” and the item cannot be used until it is revised and reapproved.
How to complete the revision: Use the “Edit Items” button to correct the missing fields, then click “Revised” on the right side of the row to send the item back for CRC approval.
Timing note: Metrc notes approvals may take up to 2 weeks; coordinate revision timelines with your CRC field monitor to reduce operational disruption.
