Getting to Know Metrc in Alaska

On November 4th, 2014, cannabis was legalized by a citizen’s initiative for adult use. Based in Anchorage, Alaska, the Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office (AMCO) oversees and regulates all aspects of the legal cannabis industry across the state. Their mission statement is to “Enforce alcohol and marijuana commerce laws and provide clear, consistent standards for licensure to protect the public from harm.” To that end, AMCO and the state of Alaska contacted Metrc to assist in regulating the market. Metrc began assisting the state of Alaska with cannabis licensing and monitoring  in 2016. Continuing the ongoing successful partnership, the state of Alaska renewed Metrc’s contract in 2021 for an additional five years.
