What is Metrc and why is it required in New York?

Metrc (Marijuana Enforcement Tracking Reporting Compliance) is New York’s official seed-to-sale tracking system selected by the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM). It tracks every cannabis plant and product from cultivation through sale to ensure transparency and prevent diversion. All licensed operators—cultivators, processors, distributors, and retailers—must report inventory and activities in Metrc by late 2025.

When will Metrc become mandatory in New York?

Credentialing began in late 2024 with phased onboarding through 2025. All New York cannabis licensees are expected to be fully onboarded and using Metrc by the end of 2025.
