Bulletin summary (NV_IB_0110)
Metrc (Nevada) has added a new Vehicle Registration Number field to transporter vehicle records to improve transportation compliance, data accuracy, and regulator transparency.
This change was distributed on 02/06/2026 and is effective 02/10/2026. It is available immediately when adding or updating vehicles in Metrc.
What changed in Metrc vehicle management
Nevada licensees can now store a vehicle’s state-required identifier directly on the vehicle record using the new Registration Number field. Metrc designed this field to support different compliance terms used by states and regulators, including registration numbers, certification numbers, or VINs.
Metrc already captures vehicle make and model. Adding a standardized registration identifier helps ensure the vehicle information shown across transfers, manifests, and deliveries matches what regulators expect to see during audits or roadside checks.
Why this matters for Nevada transporter compliance
This enhancement is primarily a compliance and operational efficiency improvement:
- Better audit readiness: Vehicle identifiers are recorded in the same system regulators review for transfer activity.
- Fewer workarounds: Licensees can reduce reliance on external spreadsheets or internal notes to track vehicle registration/VIN details.
- Cleaner transfer documentation: The vehicle identifier can surface anywhere transporter details are displayed, improving consistency across teams.
Vehicle Registration Number field rules and permissions
Required user permission
To add or edit a vehicle’s Registration Number, the licensed user must be granted permission to manage Transporters in Metrc.
Field constraints operators should know
Metrc enforces the following rules for the Registration Number field:
- Optional field on the vehicle record (unless a specific workflow makes it required).
- Up to 100 alphanumeric characters.
- Can only be associated with one active vehicle at a time (helps prevent duplicate identifiers across active fleet records).
Operational implication: if your organization reuses vehicles, replaces vehicles, or rotates transporter fleets, make sure you update vehicle records accurately so the active vehicle list remains consistent and defensible during inspections.
Where the Registration Number appears in Metrc
Transfers (Licensed and External)
For any transfer type configured to capture Transporter Information, Metrc will display the vehicle’s Registration Number alongside the rest of the transporter vehicle details in the transfer action window.
Depending on how Nevada has configured transfer requirements, the field may be required for certain transfer workflows. Practically, this means dispatch teams should confirm vehicle records are updated before starting a transfer to avoid delays or data gaps.
Transfers Hub visibility
The Transfers Hub also displays the vehicle registration information as part of transporter details. This improves day-to-day visibility for compliance staff reviewing outbound and inbound transfers.
Transfer manifest output
The transfer manifest will include the vehicle registration information alongside other vehicle details. This is important because the manifest is commonly used as a reference document during transport and is frequently requested during enforcement interactions.
Sales deliveries
For operations using Metrc sales delivery functionality, the Vehicle Registration Number will display in Sales Deliveries and in the Sales Delivery Hub within transporter details. This helps retail delivery and dispatch workflows keep vehicle identifiers consistent across operational screens and delivery records.
Day-to-day operational impact for Nevada licensees
To use this update effectively, most Nevada operators will want to align a few internal habits with how Metrc now stores transporter vehicle data:
- Fleet setup: Ensure each active vehicle record has the correct registration/certification/VIN identifier entered exactly as your state documentation shows.
- Dispatch readiness: Confirm the vehicle record is updated before building transfers or deliveries, especially when staff are working across multiple vehicles.
- Ongoing governance: When vehicles are retired, swapped, or replaced, update Metrc promptly so the “one active vehicle per registration number” rule doesn’t create confusion later.
Related compliance tooling: labels and ERP alignment
DistruLabels (free) for compliant labels and Metrc Retail ID
While this bulletin is focused on transportation records, many compliance issues occur when operational data (like transfers and deliveries) doesn’t match packaging and retail records. DistruLabels is a 100% free tool for creating compliant packaging and retail labels, and it can help teams stay aligned with Metrc Retail ID requirements by producing consistent, compliant label outputs that match what’s recorded in Metrc.
DistruERP for larger, multi-stage operations
For larger operators that need end-to-end control across cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and retail processes, DistruERP is Distru’s comprehensive Cannabis ERP platform designed for complete supply chain management. When transportation data, inventory data, and fulfillment processes are managed cohesively, it becomes easier to keep Metrc records accurate and inspection-ready.
