How to Get Started with Metrc Training in Oregon

For operators in Oregon, getting started with Metrc requires completing steps in a certain order and knowing what resources are available to you to help you do that. In this post we cover how designated employees who work for a cannabis operation can get the ball rolling with getting trained on using Metrc in Oregon as their operation comes online.

  • What does Metrc training cover?
  • Is Metrc training required in Oregon?
  • Is this training free?
  • How do I start my training?
  • Do all staff need to complete the training?
  • Is there a test associated with Oregon Metrc training?

What Is Metrc Training?

Learning how Metrc works is the single most important activity when it comes to track and trace compliance. Metrc is the seed-to-sale compliance system used by the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) to monitor cannabis operations in the state. In order to operate a marijuana business in Oregon, cannabis operators must use the Metrc system to track and trace anything related to their product, from seed to sale

Is Metrc Training Required for All Users in Oregon and Does It Cost Anything?

Yes, all employees of cannabis operations who deal with cannabis products, including processing, packaging, and transportation staff, as well as any additional staff who need to access Metrc, will need to take the test and be certified prior to entering or working with any form of cannabis.

These trainings are free of charge and cover everything from setup to inventory management to transfers to reporting. Attendees are welcome to ask questions, and receive direct instruction from Metrc-certified trainers.

Do I Need to Have Access to A Metrc Account Prior to Training?

Yes. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) requires all licensees to create an account with Metrc and complete an online training.

The user who is designated will receive an email with a link to the Metrc software. On the login page of Metrc, click the “Get Started” button and select to create an account. This will start the process of creating your Metrc account.

How Do I Sign up For Training?

In Oregon, users may sign up for Metrc training classes on Metrc’s website using their OLCC Facility License number. To start the Metrc training process, you must first register for a free OLCC Metrc account by visiting the OLCC website and clicking on the “Sign Up Now” button.

You will be prompted to provide the OLCC Facility License number and the email address associated with the Metrc account.

How Do I Begin Taking My Test?

These classes are online and can last anywhere from 2-3 hours. The training includes questions that they have to answer and there is no separate test they need to pass. To begin, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Begin by visiting the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) website.

Step 2: On the portal, select the “Metrc Login” option on the top right.

Step 3: Log in with your Metrc account information.

Then you can take the test by looking for the link to take the test

What Other Resources Are Available to Learn Metrc in Oregon?

In addition to a live webinar, Metrc provides a host of resources that operators in Oregon can take advantage of to familiarize themselves with METRC:

See our Metrc Oregon page and Quick Start Guide for Metrc Compliance in Oregon for more information about meeting those state requirements. To streamline your day to day experience, check out our Seed to Sale platform too. We integrate directly with Metrc to minimize the double-handling of data and simplify compliance.

In addition, the OLCC (Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission) has its own resource page with tons of links that are useful for operators. These include checklists, documents, best practices, and other resources to ensure that operators are compliant with Metrc requirements.
