TL;DR

• Metrc DC now flags item setup problems with a Misconfigured column showing issue counts before they disrupt workflows.

• Sort and filter misconfigured items to fix missing data faster and prevent package creation delays.

• All configuration corrections are logged in item History for compliance tracking and internal accountability.

Metrc (District of Columbia) Bulletin DC IB 00 94 (distributed 06/30/2026; effective 06/24/2026) introduces a new “Misconfigured” column in the Items grid to help cannabis licensees spot item setup problems early, reduce downstream workflow errors, and improve traceability when item details are corrected.

What changed in Metrc: a new Misconfigured column

The Items grid now includes a Misconfigured column positioned after the Category column. This column is designed to provide at-a-glance visibility into item configuration issues so you can fix item records before they impact package creation and other operational workflows.

Value displayed when issues exist: The column shows a red badge with the number of issues (for example, “3 Issues” or “1 Issue”) when Metrc detects missing configuration data on the item.

Value displayed when no issues exist: The column shows “No” when Metrc finds no configuration issues for that item.

Why this matters for daily cannabis operations

Item setup errors can create delays and rework when teams try to use those items later in core workflows. By surfacing item configuration gaps directly in the Items grid, Metrc helps operations teams catch problems earlier—before an item is used for activities like package creation and related downstream steps that rely on complete item data.

Practically, this update supports faster onboarding of new items and fewer interruptions for cultivation, manufacturing, and distribution teams that depend on clean item master data.

How Metrc shows misconfiguration: item-level and field-level indicators

Metrc uses two connected indicators so you can see both the overall status of an item and the exact fields that need attention.

Item-level indicator (badge count): The red “# Issues” badge in the Misconfigured column shows the total number of fields on that item that are missing required configuration data.

Field-level indicator (Missing Data labels): When you view the item record in the grid, individual cells for the misconfigured fields display a “Missing Data” label so you can identify precisely what must be updated.

As each missing field is corrected, Metrc updates both the “Missing Data” labels and the issue count on the badge to reflect the current configuration status.

Sorting and filtering to find misconfigured items faster

The Misconfigured column supports sorting and filtering, which allows teams to isolate problem items quickly instead of manually scanning the entire Items grid.

Operational impact: Many operators will benefit from making “misconfigured items” a standard pre-production review step—especially when adding new SKUs, adjusting item attributes, or preparing items that will be used in time-sensitive workflows.

History tracking for item configuration corrections

Metrc records misconfigured fields and subsequent corrections in the item’s History tab within the Items grid.

Chronological audit trail: History entries appear in time order, creating a clear record of what was missing and when updates were made.

Compliance and accountability benefit: This supports internal controls by making it easier to demonstrate when configuration issues were identified and resolved, and by whom, during routine compliance oversight.

How to align labels and item data (Distru tools)

Because item configuration and product labeling data are closely related in day-to-day operations, clean item master data helps reduce mismatches between what’s configured in Metrc and what appears on packaging or at point of sale.

DistruLabels: DistruLabels is a 100% free tool for creating compliant packaging and retail labels and can help operators support Metrc Retail ID compliance by keeping label outputs aligned with required identifiers and product details.

DistruERP: For larger operations that need end-to-end supply chain management, DistruERP is Distru’s comprehensive Cannabis ERP platform designed to manage inventory, production, and fulfillment workflows alongside compliance processes.
